United Nations Denies Taliban Afghanistan’s Seat For Fourth Year In A Row

Nov 23, 2024, 09:03 GMT+0

Two diplomatic sources confirmed to Afghanistan International that in a meeting held on November 20, the Taliban's request to allocate the Afghan seat in the United Nations to the group's representative was rejected.

In this meeting, the credentials of the representatives of Afghanistan, Myanmar and Libya were reviewed.

Members of the committee, including the United States, China and Russia, attended the meeting.

According to the proposal of the chairman of the committee, the review of the credentials of the representative of Afghanistan was postponed.

This is the fourth time that the United Nations has rejected the Taliban's request to hand over the UN seat to the group's representative.

Currently, the seat of Afghanistan is held by Nasir Ahmad Faiq, a representative of the former Afghan government.

The Taliban's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has nominated Suhail Shaheen as its representative to the United Nations, but the United Nations does not recognise Shaheen as Afghanistan's representative.

No Separate Schools For Immigrant Students, Says Iran's Ministry of Education

Nov 22, 2024, 13:59 GMT+0

Ali Farhadi, a spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Education, said that there are no special schools for immigrant students in the country.

Farhadi said that the ministry has no intention of separating immigrant students from Iranian students.

A spokesman for Iran's Ministry of Education said on Friday (November 22) that about 600,000 foreign students are studying in the country's schools, the majority of whom are Afghans.

The official stressed that the rumours circulating in the media about the construction of special schools for immigrants and the separation of students are not true. Previously, rumours about the separation of immigrant students from Iranian students had been spread on some websites.

The spokesperson of the Iranian Ministry of Education clarified that in some neighbourhoods in Iran, the population density of immigrants is high, and for this reason, the number of immigrant students is more prominent in the schools of those neighbourhoods. He added that the Ministry of Education does not believe in the establishment of special schools for immigrants.

Ali Farhadi acknowledged that coexistence and interaction between Iranian and immigrant students leads to an improvement in the cultural environment and increased social interactions. The Ministry of Education supports this method of education, he said.

Killed Three Taliban Members In Attack On Bagram Airfield, Caims AFF

Nov 22, 2024, 12:32 GMT+0

The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) announced that it had killed three Taliban members and wounded two members of the group in an attack on the out post of Gate No. 4 of Bagram Airport on Thursday evening.

The statement said that Mullah Zakir, the Taliban's deputy commander, was killed in the attack at the Bagram Airfield. So far, the Taliban have not responded to the Afghanistan Freedom Front's claim.

Earlier, Afghanistan International had reported that the Taliban had transferred hundreds of people accused of being members of armed anti-Taliban fronts, such as the Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front, to Bagram prison.

Bagram prison is part of Bagram Air Base, which was held by the US-led international coalition for the past two decades and served as the main centre of the fight against the Taliban and ISIS.

It held hundreds of "dangerous" prisoners, including Taliban and ISIS commanders and fighters. With the withdrawal of international forces and the fall of the Afghan government, the Taliban captured the base and released the prisoners.

In September this year, sources told Afghanistan International that the Taliban had activated the prison and transferred a number of prisoners there. A source said that the Taliban had also transferred some of the former government's military prisoners to Bagram airfield.

US Congress Passes Bill Supporting Transfer Of Afghan Allies To United States

Nov 22, 2024, 10:13 GMT+0

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill to support efforts to transfer Washington's Afghan colleagues to the United States.

The bill calls for the appointment of a coordinator at the US State Department to handle efforts to relocate Washington's Afghan allies.

According to the text of the "Bill Designating the Coordinator of Efforts to Relocate Afghans 2024" which was published on the website of the Congress, "the relocation and resettlement of eligible Afghan allies, facilitating the exit from Afghanistan for US citizens and people who have permanent residence in the US", are among the responsibilities of this coordinator.

In addition, according to the bill, the coordinator of the US State Department will support the efforts of this ministry and the US government for the resettlement and relocation of Afghans.

The draft of this bill was presented to the US House of Representatives by Dina Titus, a representative of the state of Nevada.

This bill was approved two days ago with 334 votes in favour, 63 votes against and 36 abstentions.

"I am proud to have spearheaded this bill to ensure that we can protect eligible Afghan allies who have helped the United States and are facing threats from the Taliban," Titus wrote on her X account after the law was passed.

The US House of Representatives approves this bill while thousands of Afghan immigrants eligible to be transferred to the US are waiting to be transferred to the United States in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Qatar and Albania. These immigrants, some of whom have been expelled from Afghanistan for more than three years, are worried about canceling the process of transferring immigrants when Donald Trump takes office.

Currently, the process of transferring Afghan immigrants to America continues slowly.
