The Taliban’s Ministry of Energy and Water has warned that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding in parts of Afghanistan, particularly in the Harirod, Murghab and Helmand river basins, on Sunday and Monday.
In a statement, the ministry said flooding and rising river levels are expected over the next two days in Herat, Ghor, Badghis, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Paktika, Khost and Paktia provinces.
The warning comes after weeks of heavy precipitation that have already caused casualties and significant financial losses in several parts of the country. In late January, snow and rain killed 61 people and injured at least 110 others, according to reports.
