Local Taliban officials in Kunar province say Pakistan fired 85 mortar rounds over the past 24 hours at the provincial capital and the districts of Sarkano, Manogai and Nari.
According to the Taliban, two people were killed and seven others were wounded in the attacks.
Officials from the Taliban’s Information and Culture Department in Kunar said the casualties were civilians, including women and children.
Farid Dehqan, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in the province, said one person was killed and three others, including women and children, were wounded when a mortar round hit a residential house in the Pashangar area of Nari district.
The Taliban also said three civilians were wounded in the attacks in Sarkano district. Pakistani officials have not yet commented on the attacks.
