Elections Have No Place Among Us, Says Akhundzada
An audio file published by the Taliban on July 1 and attributed to its supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, reveals him stating that “elections have no place among us”. Akhundzada stressed that he was not a political leader "or a president to tell lies to the people”.
He added that he will act upon the demands of the religious scholars.
Akhundzada is currently attending the second day of the Taliban’s Ulema gathering underway in Kabul. However, no photo or video recording of the meeting depicting the presence of the group’s leader has been released, so far.
