Facebook Increases Restrictions on Taliban

Aug 24, 2022, 16:20 GMT+1

Facebook has increased restrictions on the Taliban on its social networking site. In the latest move, when Facebook users search for names of Taliban members on the social network, they are issued warning messages stating that the search is related to dangerous organisations.

Facebook has warned users of restricting or blocking their accounts if the company’s policies are violated.

Facebook had previously suspended a number of Taliban-controlled media accounts. Meta Facebook’s parent company had told Afghanistan International during its earlier move that the closure of Taliban media pages on Facebook and Instagram was due to the fact that the Taliban is a sanctioned terrorist group in the United States.

The company had said that it will block all pages related to the Taliban group based on its policy on dangerous organisations.

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the accounts of a number of Facebook users were blocked due to the publication of pictures of the Taliban or the presence of the word Taliban in the texts.

Meta Platforms Inc. the parent organization of Facebook considers the Taliban a terrorist group and has banned the activities of this group on the company’s platforms.

Imprisonment of Civilians Against Principles of Human Rights, Says Faiq

Aug 23, 2022, 13:12 GMT+1

Imprisonment of civilians is against the principles of international humanitarian law, said Nasir Ahmad Faiq, acting head of Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Faiq reacted to recent reports regarding detention of civilians in Panjshir province by the Taliban.

He has urged for an investigation into the civilian detentions in Panjshir.

A video clip has been circulating on social media depicting Taliban officials arresting a number of people with handcuffs.

Taliban forces claim that the detained people were members of the National Resistance Front (NRF).

Many have criticised the Taliban’s behaviour after the release of the video clip. Several social media users have stated that the Taliban arrest and imprison civilians under the pretext of fostering relationship with the National Resistance Front.

After the National Resistance Front increased its attacks against the Taliban members in Panjshir, this group has appointed one of its most radical commanders as the commander of Panjshir and Andrab.

According to reports, the Taliban have also sent hundreds of additional troops to Panjshir province on Monday.
