While the value of other regional currencies like Iranian rial and Pakistani rupee has been in constant decline, Afghani currency has been stable due to international humanitarian aid money.

Over the past few weeks, millions of dollars have reached Kabul and the Taliban have confirmed that they have received these packages as part of the international humanitarian aid.

However, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has repeatedly clarified that cash packages shipped to Afghanistan are deposited in UN accounts in private banks, and will be used by UN agencies solely for the purpose of humanitarian aid and other supportive programs. The money will not be handed over to the Taliban, the announcement had said.

There has been a disruption to international banking transfers and liquidity issues since August 2021.

The Taliban have shut down schools for secondary and higher education and have prevented girls from education in universities.

However, the Chinese envoy has not provided details of his discussions regarding Afghanistan with the Taliban representative.

Xiaoyong stressed that along with Qatari foreign ministry officials, they agreed to keep engaging with the Taliban and further enhance China-Qatar cooperation on peace, stability, and reconstruction of Afghanistan.

The Chinese envoy also said that he had a useful meeting with Mohmmad Aejaz, Pakistan’s ambassador to Doha and expressed satisfaction on strengthening biliteral ties on Afghanistan.

China, Pakistan, and Qatar have close relations with the Taliban. Currently, Taliban diplomats have been present in the embassies of Afghanistan in the three countries.

Meanwhile, Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, the Taliban’s minister of information and culture, said that everyone in Afghanistan has been affected by narcotics.

The two Taliban ministers discussed the state of drug addiction in Afghanistan at a gathering in Herat province.

Mawlana Islamjar, the Taliban’s governor in Herat, assured the Taliban officials that he will not to allow the cultivation of opium in the province.

The Taliban government has banned the cultivation, and trafficking of narcotics in Afghanistan. However, reports indicate that drug cultivation continues in some provinces across the country.
