No News Even After 11 Days of Detention of Rights Activist Narges Sadat, Says Family

Feb 21, 2023, 15:58 GMT+0

The family of women rights activist, Narges Sadat, confirmed that she had been detained by the Taliban on February 10. They said that Taliban have not provided any information about her fate and whereabouts.

Mohammad Reza, Narges Sadat's husband, urged the United Nations and the European Union to act for the release of the women’s rights activist.

Sadat, 23, had been detained by the Taliban from the Pole- Sorkh area of Kabul.

Sadat's husband told Afghanistan International that they have contacted the Taliban intelligence offices several times, but the Taliban have ignored their requests regarding information about his wife.

Mohammad Reza said that his mother and sister have contacted the Taliban intelligence headquarters in Kabul, but haven’t received any feedback.

The Taliban didn’t comment about the detention of the women’s rights activist.

The group has cracked down against women rights activists in Afghanistan extensively for the past year.

Feb 21, 2023, 14:51 GMT+0

Ziaul Haq Sarhadi, a member of Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chambers of Commerce, said that over 6000 trucks have been stopped on both sides of Torkham border. According to Sarhadi, closure of Torkham border between Afghanistan and Pakistan has caused heavy losses to the traders.

It has been three days since the Taliban have closed the Torkham border crossing.

According to officials, after the closure of the border and gun fight between the Taliban and Pakistan border forces, the two sides have been in talks to reopen the border.

Sarhadi said, "Long queues of heavy trucks have formed on both sides of the border."

Taliban officials said that Pakistan has not fulfilled its commitments regarding the smooth transit of Afghan travellers, and patients seeking treatment in the country.

The Pakistani government has not publicly commented on the matter.

Taliban Forms 27 New Districts in 12 Provinces of Afghanistan

The Taliban’s ministry of interior affairs announced the formation of 27 new districts in 12 provinces of Afghanistan. The districts have been formed in Helmand, Baghlan, Faryab, Farah, Sar-e Pol, Ghor, Badghis, Paktika, Zabul, Nuristan, and Kandahar provinces.

The Taliban have stressed that these new districts have been formed to provide better government services to remote and underserved areas.

The Taliban's Prime Minister office has ordered all ministries to activate their offices in these districts to provide better services to the people.

No further details about the names and locations of these districts have been provided by the Taliban.

Previously, Afghanistan had 364 districts in 34 provinces.

Another $40 Million Cash Package Reaches Kabul, Taliban’s Central Bank Welcomes Move

Feb 21, 2023, 09:15 GMT+0

The Taliban-controlled Central Bank announced on Tuesday that Afghanistan has received another 40 million dollars cash package. The bank said in a statement that it welcomed any move that brings in money into Afghanistan.

The Taliban have said that the cash package has been handed over to a commercial bank in Kabul.

While the Iranian rial and Pakistani rupee have lost value in recent days, the value of the Afghani currency has remained stable in the market. Observers believe that one of the main reasons for the stable value of Afghani is the cash packages being delivered as humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

In more than one and a half years since the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban, over 1.8 billion dollars of cash packages have been delivered to Kabul on a weekly basis.

Sending millions of dollars of "humanitarian" aid to Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban has been met with support and criticisms of many Afghans.

Critics believe that the Taliban benefit from international humanitarian aid. Earlier, Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front, had said that the Taliban regime would fall if the weekly cash delivery to Afghanistan had been cut off.

However, the United Nations has said it is necessary to save millions of needy people in Afghanistan through the humanitarian aid.

Taliban Arrests Pashto Writer Mohammad Ismail Rahmani in Kabul

Feb 20, 2023, 14:49 GMT+0

Sources said that Taliban intelligence operatives have arrested Mohammad Ismail Rahmani, a Pashto language writer, and social media influencer. These sources told Afghanistan International that Taliban intelligence forces arrested Rahmani in Kabul on Saturday.

According to these sources, Rahmani has been transferred to an unknown location and his fate is not clear yet.

Ismail Rahmani received a master's degree in Shariah studies from Kabul University and has been a religious scholar.

Supporters and some Pashto writers have expressed concern about Rahmani's arrest and asked the Taliban to release him immediately.

Last week, the Taliban arrested social media influencers Sadullah Didan, also known as Haji Kaka, in Nangarhar province and Imran Ahmadzai in the capital city, Kabul.

On Sunday, the Taliban intelligence agency released a video clip of the forced confessions of these two Afghans, who admitted to anti-Taliban activities on their social media pages that have not been posted.

Taliban Detains Former Jihadi Commander on Suspicion of Collaborating With NRF

Feb 20, 2023, 11:09 GMT+0

Local sources said that the Taliban has imprisoned Abdul Ghaffar Moradi, a former anti-Soviet jihadi commander, since the past 10 days. According to the sources, Taliban members had arrested 15 people from Aybak city in Samangan province over the past week.

The group has released the other arrested individuals with the mediation of local elders, but they have kept Moradi imprisoned.

The sources said that Moradi is being tortured during the Taliban detention.

It has been said that these people had been arrested by the Taliban after a flag of the National Resistance Front (NRF) had been hoisted in Dare Zindan village of Samangan Province.

The Taliban has accused Moradi of collaborating with the NRF forces. However, Moradi's relatives have said that Moradi has no affiliation with NRF forces and had not been aware of the people who hoisted the flag in Dare Zindan village.
