Afghanistan Tops Agenda of NSAs of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Delhi

Mar 29, 2023, 09:11 GMT+1

The annual meeting of the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) began on Wednesday in New Delhi. The meeting is expected to address the regional situation, Afghanistan, counterterrorism, and transnational crimes.

India currently chairs the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, India, and Iran are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

The members of SCO hold meetings every year to strengthen multilateral cooperation among the member states.

Afghanistan has been a key issue for this Eurasian organisation. The active presence of ISIS in Afghanistan has been one of the major concerns of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

The Taliban announced this week that the group had conducted several operations against ISIS in the Balkh province.

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, ISIS has taken responsibility for deadly attacks in different parts of Afghanistan and has also carried out several rocket attacks on Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
