Assistance Reached 23 Million People in Afghanistan in 2022, Says WFP

Monday, 03/13/2023

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that in 2022, the organisation supported around 23 million people, including 12 million women and girls, in Afghanistan.

According to WFP, these people were facing food insecurity across the country.

WFP stressed that the assistance was provided by the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Asian Development Bank.

This is while the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that the number of people in need of aid in Afghanistan to be around 25 million in 2022.

Meanwhile, OCHA in a report announced that a staggering 80 percent of households across Afghanistan have experienced income reduction.

OCHA’s assessment shows that the economy of Afghans has deteriorated since 2019.

According to the UN organisation, the deteriorating economy caused a sharp decline in income, rising debt, and high unemployment under the Taliban.
